Will District 7 Fight For Real Education For Their Children or Keep The Status Quo?Excerpt from Robin Litaker's speech today in a forum "Defend Our Republic" in Selma, Alabama: The schools that are failing the most in the state of Alabama are in district seven, and they all have one thing in common. They take the most federal funds. Federal funds are supposed to equalize your school in your district with districts like Mountain Brook or Homewood, but it doesn't because of the mandates. And that's what I am going to stop. Teachers and parents in local schools and districts should be making the instructional decisions and it's as simple as a teacher saying I need that book to work with this child and right now that's not what's happening. You have title one saying you have to use this book, you have to use this language, you have to say it this way, and if the child doesn't catch on, you just move on. And if you don't believe me, ask any teacher. They're frustrated, they're quitting, education is supposed to be a state function, And I realize running for Congress, I'm supposed to be talking about world peace and the economy and all that. And I don't want you to think I'm not concerned about that. But I know that if this district and this state is ever going to move forward, we've got to get that education piece right. Our kids are just as smart as anyone else. I have seen some children that you would never think would achieve do amazing things in life and it's because they were given the right key and they had teachers and parents and administrators and people supporting them.... We fight together...More excerpt: Let me end with my David and Goliath story you know David had the shield of God around him. All he had was a rock and a sling. And the part of the story that we don't think about a lot is Goliath laughed at him. OK, Terry Sewell's laughing at me. I don't care. The Philistines, they laughed at David, but the worst part of it to me was the fact that his family laughed at him, the king laughed at him...But if you saw what I saw yesterday, if you knew how many people have passed away simply because the hospitals aren't open, there's two little boys in Pickens County that watch their daddy die Christmas Day because it took 45 minutes for an ambulance to get there the number of black babies that died and district seven I've got the numbers I'll have to look it's like 12 and every 1 ,000 births and now because of the hospitals closing and then taking maternity wards out people are having to drive from Choctaw County to Montgomery all over the place what if there's problem and who cares I do and that's just how I was raised until I take my last breath, and I had someone say it just popped out of my mouth, well what do you want out of this? Well done, well done my good and faithful servant. I think our country is worth saving. I know our children are worth it. And there is an easier answer than all these committees and task force and 93 billion dollar budget that the State Department of Education thinks is okay and have you ever noticed not one thing has moved the needle not one thing now they'll come out of doing we made three -point improvement. I don't care. It's not that hard. It's not that hard to move a child. So anyway, any of you live in District 7 or you know people that live in District 7, I want you to win so you and I can partner up. And I think we still have good days ahead of us, and we've got to fight the good fight. But we've got to get rid of the problem that's in our schools. And I'm telling you, it's the federal government mandates. And if we had time, I could tell you how that affects behavior, I could take you all over the place with it.
